Functions:

Strengthens spleen and stops diarrhea

Indications:

Improper digestion in children, vomiting and diarrhea caused by the common cold

Chronic spleen and stomach deficiency, nausea, vomiting, loose stools and diarrhea, body fluid exhaustion,  irritability and thirst, low appetite, weakness in limbs, emaciation, and convulsions in extreme cases.

This formula is based on Si Jun Zi Tang and treats a similar condition, but with the additional symptom of accumulated damp phlegm, which encumbers the spleen and the large intestine.  Huo Xiang transforms dampness and stops nausea, Mu Xiang moves the qi while Ge Gen raises yang qi, stops diarrhea and generates fluid, quenching thirst. It is good for children that present with chronic spleen-stomach vacuity alternatively with vomit or diarrhea, and heat deficiency accompanied by thirst. Both this formula and Shen Ling Bai Zhu San address diarrhea owing to spleen-stomach yang deficiency, yet are different in that Shen Ling Bai Zhu San tonifies the lung qi by nourishing earth to generate metal and this formula addresses chronic spleen-stomach deficiency diarrhea by attacking external pathogens.

This formula is mostly used for children with poor digestion symptoms, vomiting and diarrhea caused by the common cold.

Applications:

Take as needed with warm water.
